So..I'm an avid player of many different RPG games (most of them made by Square Enix, lol) and I've often thought about coming up with my own game idea. I certainly have the imagination to think on that sort of scale, it's just a matter of bringing it all together and tying up all the loose ends.
So that's what this thread is for. This is going to be a place where I put all the information as I come up with it for characters, setting and storylines, and I'd love some input from any of you readers about what you feel would make it a better idea, or any suggestions you can offer me, or even whether this idea is interesting in the slightest or not.
Thanks guys..more to come. _________________ I fall asleep counting questions instead of sheep |

I was torn between the second and third choice, but I chose the second one.
Personally, if an RPG has too many characters, it's difficult to give each character an importance in the story unless the game is really long.
I have a game called Chrono Cross (a spin-off sequel to Chrono Trigger) It had over 40 character, and I didn't even know half their names. And there wasn't much story info on most of them anyways.
To me, even if the gameplay isn't that great, if the characters and storyline are good, then you can bear with the gameplay.
Example: Kingdom Hearst 2
I found to be better than Kingdom Hearts 1 in terms of story and characters, however the main critism with KH2 is that it was too easy to play. Personally, I had no problem with that, but it took me two weeks to beat KH1; it only took more 4 days to beat KH2.
I admit that the story in KH2 had me enthralled, so that might be why I finished it rather quickly. I just had to keep going ang going.
It's funny, my first playthough I only stopped after I finally got a game over against a too tough boss; and I realized I had been playing for over 5 hours.
Having twists and turns is good and all, but I still say story is more imporatnt than abrupt changes in events. Actually, a combination of both would be good.
An example would be Star Ocean 3. There was a main storyline that seemed staright forward, and then suddenly there was major twist and the TRUE storyline was revealed. I admit when I saw that, I just quit the game and didn't play it for quite a while. I have beaten it twice since then, but still...
Having mini quests is good to have since often a quest will lead to a bonus scene that gives insight on a not so important character which is rather interesting. There's also the slew of bonuses and stuff, and just added game play time too.
But ultimately, I put a good story as an important factor in an RPG. |
