Sea Dragon Heir by Storm Constantine
I didn't like this. At all. I didn't even finish it. It's a shame because I enjoy Constantine and her style was great even in this, but that's all this has. Aside from the very intriguing theology, mythology, and universe the book is not very good.
The first book to this trilogy is told mainly in the pov of a woman named Pharinet. She and her twin brother, Valimer are very close. Very. Though they both have to get married to childhood friends, they have an affair, the night before their dual weddings. Pharinet is a priestess of her people's ancient religion that draws powers from the sea dragons. This religion has been banned by the emperor, whom Valimer leaves home to serve as a high general. While there, he begins to turn into a different person. He is ambitious and cold and while he continues his sexual relationship with Pharinet, he also is involved with the bratty prince, Bayard. Valimer is the sea dragon heir but whether he is good or bad is anyone's guess.
I hate this book. None of the characters have any redeeming qualities. Pharinet is a scheming, evil slut; her brother is no better, and after a while I just didn't care about their problems. Some really enjoy this book, so you may want to check it out. I, however, need more in a story. |
